Though Max does not understand her bond to Braith, he knows some of what she endured, and helps to ease some of the tattered pieces of her soul. Aria slowly begins to salvage the broken parts of her wounded spirit by throwing herself into the wonder of the woods she had so greatly missed, and the secure and reassuring love that Max freely gives her.

Her world is thrown into a tailspin again though when a marauding group of vampires destroy the caves she had found temporary shelter in. Scattered about the forest, seeking to stay hidden and find her family, Aria is stunned when Braith, the monster that savaged her heart, reappears.

Stunned by his sudden arrival in her world, Arianna is uncertain if he has come to recapture her, or to kill her for daring to escape. Recommended for ages sixteen and up. Get A Copy. She was the woman that was going to fire that arrow at any moment. Aria was pissed, she felt betrayed not even her love of nature can heal her wounded heart. No, this girl was stronger, more callous; colder.

This girl fairly vibrated with anger and hostility. She looked like a warrior, she was a warrior, he realized. She had always been a fighter, but now she was so much more than that. He trusted that he did the same for her. View all 8 comments. View all 3 comments. For just this moment, in this time, she needed to feel better. It begins only two months since Arianna has escaped from her captivity. Without Braith, she is broken. She was barely able to breathe through the grief that continuously clawed at her insides.

The prince h "His touch made everything better; it was the salve to the ragged lesion that had been festering since their separation. The prince had ruined her. Because of her experience at the castle, she is a different person. Even her good friend Max cannot comfort her.

She continues to try and convince her father, brother, and Max that she loved the Prince and he was good to her. However, they are convinced that she is a victim of Stockholm syndrome. Meanwhile, at the castle, Braith is going through a blood crazed frenzy. He is using blood slaves left and right. He feels betrayed by Arianna's departure and cannot seem to forget her. He feels betrayed. Because she has his blood flowing through her veins, he can track her.

That is exactly what he does. Though she hated to admit it, there had been a part of her that had craved this. A part that had pined for him to come for her, to take her away from all of this desolation and pain, and keep her safe and love her. They fight before Arianna breaks down. It wasn't until he pulled away to wipe the tears from her silken cheeks that he realized he cared for her far more than he had been willing to admit to himself.

It wasn't until she rested her forehead against his chest and began to sob heavily that he realized they were both doomed. He has to know why she left. As the secrets are brought into the light, Braith realizes his love for Arianna is still very real.

Even though they love each other they know they cannot be together. For everything that they would lose, and could never have. But it was impossible to feel sad when he was holding her. As the story progresses, Arianna tries to go back to her family. Braith tries to return to the palace. They physically cannot stay away from each other. Braith takes Arianna deep into the woods.

Ergo giving up his rights to the throne and turning his back from his father the King. His presence was overwhelming, and yet so blissfully soothing.

His hands were caressing as they slid over her, pushing aside her clothes to brush over her skin. No one is exactly who they seem to be. Arianna and Braith find out why their connection is so strong. Secrets from the past are revealed. Braith is obsessed with keeping Arianna safe. He won't allow anyone to touch her.

Even Arianna's family and friends must keep a safe distance. Do you understand me? Their future is uncertain and yet at least they will be uncertain together. Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying this series. The writing style is textured with inner monologues and yet I find the feelings that they are both going through are better expressed through their thoughts.

I am very intrigued by the family connections between both Braith and his family and Arianna and her family.

However, the binding tie between these two makes this story different. It is unknown if they will make it out together and alive. The physical connection between the two is strong and yet the lack of sexual intimacy only builds the anticipation.

What will happen when they finally do connect? Since I have already downloaded the next book, I won't have to wait to find out. View all 29 comments. A wholly entertaining series which transcends the YA genre Most accurately described as Dystopian Vampire Romance In the process Braith becomes a bit whiny and helpless in my opinion Which is strange to say about a powerful immortal on a killing spree A mark that was fading faster than she wanted it to, and yet nowhere near as fast as she wanted it to.

Arianna was beginning to grow thoroughly annoyed with Ashby, her hands twitched upon her bow. This was almost comical In a bad way. Braith, our guy, spends nearly the whole book trembling in rage. I'm not kidding, that would happen twice every page. By the end, of course, it had gotten old and boring. As for Aria, she spent nearly all the time she had with Braith crying, for different reasons.

As a couple, those two were just terrible. One trembling in rage and the other melting in a puddle of tears all the time. He was This was almost comical He was also extremely annoying.

This is also in dire need of a proofreading. There were so many mistakes that I was distracted one example? The constant use of 'too' rather than 'to'. Some revelations happened, and the thing that bothers me is view spoiler [ if bloodlinking is supposedly super rare, how come we have two! Apr 04, NoNameLoves2Read rated it it was ok.

I am officially quitting this series. It was only pages, so I toughed it out. The story which was getting good was put on hold so that the two main characters could be a mushy and ridiculous mess.

Here's what I got out of the story Braith gets mad Arianna touches his arm and says, "Braith". Over and over again. The characters in this book can get staked for all I care. He pulled her closer, enfolding her in his arms as his body melded to hers. This books was so cute! Better then the first one for sure! I still loved the first one ; "She is my world," Braith interrupted sharply.

I think that the characters are better developed and the story line is a bit more interest "You said you loved me," she whispered. I think that the characters are better developed and the story line is a bit more interesting.

I don't deserve you; I did nothing to earn your love, or the gift of sight that your presence has brought back to my life. This is what happens when I order books from a different country.

Braith hasn't taken Arias departure well and he's spiralling down into darkness, he's feeding constantly and brutally and we're left to wonder if he'll come out the other side. This is a really good second book as good if not better than the previous one. Apr 19, Jilly rated it really liked it Shelves: vampires , fantasy. She would be his undoing, as he would be hers.

Aria is heartbroken and having a hard time getting back to her life as a rebel, and Braith is lashing out over losing the only person he has ever loved. The good news about this book is that we get to learn a lot more about the world and other characters.

And, we learn about why Brait She would be his undoing, as he would be hers. And, we learn about why Braith can only see when Aria is around him. Also, I liked that fact that Aria's family thought she had Stockholm Syndrome because it shows that they are intelligent and protective.

She keeps trying to convince them that she loved him and that he was kind to her, but they don't buy it. Even though we know this to be true, it would have been weird and wrong for her family to just say, "ok, you had a great vacation and fell in love, we are happy for you.

I like that about her. Kill the two-timing a-hole! And, when Braith leaves the palace, things get complicated because there is no way he can just walk away from being the heir to the throne. He wants to stay with Aria at any cost, though, because he is becoming more unstable whenever he is not around her. There is a reason for this, as the cause of their bond, and his eyesight returning around her, is finally revealed. Unfortunately, it throws a few more wrenches in the system because Braith could be very dangerous if anything happens to Aria - and she is only a fragile human.

I liked this book much more than the first one, even though Aria got a little mopey in the beginning, because of the world-building. I finally felt like there was more of a story than just the two of them. So far, so good.

Liked this one more than the first book. I do think the heroine forgave him too easy especially what he had done in his separation, but then again I also didn't dwell on it for too long because being without her makes him crazy and i was living for it lol.

I normally hate stuff like that in books and I know most other people do too, but I'm letting it go because I really like this series so far. He is also super protective and possessive so I'm definitely excited to see 4 Stars! He is also super protective and possessive so I'm definitely excited to see more of that. The second book in The Captive series, this is a fantastic follow up to book one - Captured - and continues the story of Arianna and Braith and their battle to be together in a world where vampires rule over an enslaved human race.

The story picks up around two months after the end of the hideous cliffhanger that ended the last book The second book in The Captive series, this is a fantastic follow up to book one - Captured - and continues the story of Arianna and Braith and their battle to be together in a world where vampires rule over an enslaved human race.

The story picks up around two months after the end of the hideous cliffhanger that ended the last book. Arianna and Braith are both devastated following their separation, both under the misconception that they have been betrayed by the other. Arianna takes solace in finding quiet time usually with Max who is still very much devoted to her , while Braith goes all feral vampire — manwhoring, killing and drinking the blood of anybody he can get his hands on.

And there is a strong focus on their relationship which only strengthens as they come to realise the depth of their feelings, and what the bond between them truly means. I loved seeing them open up to each other. The emotion is absolutely beautiful. A small gasp of surprise escaped her as he fell to his knees before her. He wrapped his arms around her waist as he rested his head against her stomach. I don't deserve you; I did nothing to earn your love, or the gift … that your presence has brought back to my life.

He is so beautifully protective, swoony and tender with Arianna, but to the rest of the world he is a macho Alpha who is immensely powerful, vicious and ruthless and actually a bit of an asshole, and I LOVE him!

And if he was going to keep her safe, then his father would have to be removed. A new power, and a new world system, would have to be established. Shivers… seriously! She brings so much emotion to the story, and not just the romance — the disgust, the hate, the longing, and the heartbreak, I could feel it all! Loved it - 4 stars View all 11 comments.

In book 2, I found the first few chapters of the story intense as Braith's anger towards Aria fuels him. It was definitely a darker side of him compared to book 1.

As the story progressed and the intensity was over, the story then focuses on the history and back story of the characters and their families. This then introduces us to new characters as well as Braith's father, the king, who is apparently on everyone's 'I Hate You List'. I find Aria and Braith's story a bit like a twisted version of Romeo and Juliet. Their connection is so strong that if anyone breaths wrong on Aria, Braith is ready to kill.

This connection is later explained as certain things starts to fall into place between Aria and Braith. While all this is going on, I do feel sorry for Max.

Max was captured along with Aria in book 1. His feelings are changing for Aria and you can't help but feel for what he is going through. Every day is a struggle to get through, and the only solace she is able to find is with Max, her best friend, and fellow captive.
